This group was founded to help organize events, outings, community LANs and group tournaments in the Southeast States. Gaming is for fun, Winning is for snobs. This is a Public Group to any player in the area. Please join our group to communicate and game with others in Florida and Surrounding States.

Tallahassee United Gamers is a group that focuses on the original Bottom Basement Gaming! You know, the BYOB *Bring Your Own Box* LAN Parties?

Bringing back the original Non-profit events for enjoyment of getting together with friends and co-workers alike. Nothing beats a Frag Fest like in the token-ring network. The Internet is a privilege and must be treated as such. Event's may have limited or no connectivity to the internet due to technical or poor pockets. We can get patches and fixes with a mobile connection but you're SOL if you are only going to sit there at your box playing MMOs. Plus nobody likes you for not being fresh meat in a good fragger.

With all that being said, I (Skylancer) started this event/group with good intentions. I have successfully founded and admin'd several events small and as large as 350 users. Being non-profit I would love to see other gamers contribute or donate as much as they can. That might be as much as server boxes, switches/cables, tables/chairs, food/beverages (for sharing or reduced cost) to as little as just attending to be a good sport. No Pros here, just loads of awesome gamers! Contributions during the event or through the donation section are reinvested into equipment, supplies and server rentals. Nothing is ever kept for profit.

Discord VS Other Voice Services

While I enjoy the various groups and companies that offer up great services for the gaming community, there are some that neglect important features to have.

This isn't a rant on Discord, I think it's a fantastic idea. However, it still makes me feel uncertain about its future without major updates to the server and privacy settings. I’ve seen too many issues with services like Teamspeak, Ventrilo which expose users to attacks. While there isn’t a 100% way to avoid attacks. Discord/Teamspeak/Ventrilo don’t have any real security, privacy or moderation control.

Discord does offer social media, and it’s good about connecting users to channels and groups. However, these loose controls can get out of hand when they’re used by trolls, raiders and spammers. You won’t have any control or support from Discord. This can be a nightmare for some and a stream failure for another. It’s easy to reveal identifiable information and intrude or impersonate someone, which can a personal or PR nightmare for most.

I appreciate the work that Discord has to offer, but I band on the side of security.

TUGFL works hard to build reliable inexpensive services for friends and gamers to enjoy. If you have any questions or issues with our service, we will try to remediate the problem as quickly as we can.

We picked Mumble for the fact that it’s Open Source (The code is examined for reliability) and offers great security options for any administrator that would like to manage it. We also use Mumble because we can control logging to minimal settings just to evaluate the health of the server. Privacy settings are also entirely Client side, which gives user control of what is seen or accessed by the members of the server or the server itself. We also engage in global ban lists to prevent troublesome users and spammers from accessing our service. There is also Moderator and Admin account accesses for users to manage the Server or Sub Channels. Channels can additionally be secured with independent ACLs for groups and members apart from the inherited ones from the server.

Web Client Underway!

Here is an image of the progress for the Web Client, It might not be super pretty. However it's a great start!
